Jewish footprints at the beginning of the Cuban Revolution: six youth stories (1959-1968)

This article profiles six young communists of Jewish origin committed to the Cuban Revolution during the 1960s. Their biographies show the traces of their progressive Jewish background and their yearning to build a new socialist society in Latin America. The work offers a counterpoint to the leftist Zionism that migrated to Israel, to build socialism within the frameworks of its collectivity.Considering the hegemonic narrative that has naturalized the idea that Jewishness and Zionism are equivalent, this work reveals the existence of other Jewish identities –atheist, communist and revolutionary– in the specific Cuban case.
