Abstract

The few studies on the railroads and their impacts in Bolivia have taken more account of the construction projects, financial mechanisms or their impact on mining activity, which was promoted and built for whose benefit the most. Has been neglected, in contrast, the situation in other regions, not belonging to the mining circuit as producers, but since the colonial era, were linked to the markets to feed its population and by extension to other regions of the Andean altiplano. This paper examines the situation in Cochabamba, agricultural land, located in central Bolivia between 1892 and 1927, showed the conflicts of its agricultural elites and the central government to obtain a railroad that will connect with the mining region of Oruro.
