The following article explores, by several moments of the life of Juan Carlos Garavaglia, the clues to compose an explanation of the originality of his work. It goes through the personal and intellectual biography, which involve from the characteristics of his birth home to the problems that concerned him in his last writings, passing by his education in the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, his early interest for militancy, his also early incursion in the historic dissemination, his extensive editorial work, his apprenticeship in the Universidad de Buenos Aires, the conforming of his research agendas and his exiles.
