In this interview, the renowned Italian historian Enzo Traverso answers a series of questions about his intellectual trajectory. He also discusses his use of certain analytical categories and points to key factors in explaining the rise of the new radical right, including the adoption of a long-term perspective. He further explores the concept of left-wing melancholy in relation to research that emphasizes the emotional dimension. He delves into the different historical facets of Communism, the current role of intellectuals, and the danger of presentism as a kind of "crushing of all dimensions of the present's historicity." Finally, he offers his reflections on the fiftieth anniversary of the 1976 coup in Argentina.
