Abstract

If we review the main milestones in the agricultural history of Argentina, we see a continuity between past and present of the rural country. With liberal, conservative, radical, interventionist, popular, or extreme neoliberalism policies, Argentina has put more effort to strengthen the rural country rather than find alternatives. In occasion of the Bicentennial, this conference provides some clues to interpreting the performance of this agricultural specialization, a sign that distinguishes the country. At the same time proposes to reflect on current challenges in the agricultural sector, emphasizing the history and the “memory” as essential tools necessary to deal a reconstruction of rural Argentina with new basis, promoting and implementing genuine state policies.
