Abstract

This article aims to discuss the Brazilian historiographic production which, since the 90's, regards the Third brazilian Republic (1945-1964) as a representative democracy experience in a consolidation process. Taking that into account, the article criticizes traditional thesis that, particularly the concept of populism, disqualifies the political history of the time.
