Abstract

This paper examines the matter of the property of the land in the high lands of Jujuy as a central problem in the context of political change, that led the UCR to the provincial government between 1918 and 1930. It focuses on the proposal of the yrigoyenista leader Miguel A. Tanco, who wanted to convert the latifundia of Quebrada and Puna into public lands and its occupants in tenants of the state, and indigenous peasant mobilization around it. It is a historical review of the agrarian structure of Jujuy, about the specific political context and emerging social protest. It was intended to open up the possibility of a comparative reading between two different historical and geographical realities, one located in the province of Jujuy and the other in the Patagonian territories, in the political time of the radical governments.
