History, novel and theatre. The representation of indigenous people in two literary works by Alcides Greca

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analise the construction of visions regarding the image of indigenous people in the first half of the twentieth century, with a focus on the context of the mocovi aborigines in the town of San Javier (province of Santa Fe, Argentina). In order to do so, we will consider two literary works by the well-known politician, jurist and writer Alcides Greca (San Javier, 1889 – Rosario, 1956), who referred several times to the native people of his own region and especially to the rebellion led by them in 1904. The object of our analysis will be the vision of the indigenous conflict reflected in those pieces and its relation with the context of their production, trying to see through them different aspects of the ideology and the society of their time.
