Abstract

In drafting their suicide chronicles, La Capital added the tools of the new tabloid journalism of the '20s. So, throughout the decade, narrative strategies were seen to trivialize the voluntary death by calling it "anecdotal suicide". Meanwhile, its massive losses with stereotyped news section police. After a cross-reading, the informative material shows certain gaps where voluntary death became evident as a social problem. Likewise, the acceleration of urban life own of modernization of cities caused in some people a sense of estrangement that could mobilise voluntary death. Therefore, the suicide phenomenon questions the perception of modernity, understood as an age of light and progress.
