Abstract

Adamovsky's research, with extensive documentary work and extensive productions over a decade, allows us to delve into an often-denied reality of the formation of modern Argentina. That is, the second half of the nineteenth century is portrayed as a relentless imposition by the upper and ruling classes, achieving their vision of a white, Europeanized Argentina, with the working classes having no opportunity to express themselves in this birth of the nation. For this reason, Carnival becomes an important lens for exploring the reactions and participation of the commoners in defining the national "we."
