Abstract

This article explores the magazine Riel y Fomento edited by the Administración General de los Ferrocarriles del Estado from its first number published in May 1922 until the mid 1920s. It seeks to shed light on how the electoral interests of the political elites from the Radical government intertwined with the entrepreneurial strategies of the technical bureaucracies responsible for managing these railways. In so doing, it hopes to offer a more comprehensive understanding of the political factors that shaped the development of the state-owned railroads in the times of the Democratic Republic.
