Abstract

This paper studies the figure of the sub-delegate, an
important local agent in the relationship between the Hispanic
King and American hispanic cities. This official hasn’t been
considered enough by historiography.
The main purpose of this research is to specify the powers and
attributes of the sub-delegate of San Miguel de Tucumán. It
is considered that these were the result of negotiation between
laws and the concrete exercise of its authority in relation to the
council, cabildo, to achieve consensus rather than a conflictive
competition.
