Abstract

is work aims to reconstruct and analyze some
essays, collaborations and interventions made in various periodical
publications by Argentine intellectuals, politicians and/or
publicists, towards the last quarter of the nineteenth century and
first third of the twentieth century. All of wich were launched to
recover, review and disseminate a certain version about the nature
of José de San Martín and his role during the Spanish-American
independence revolutions. To this end, special attention will be
paid to comparisons made with other historical figures –mainly,
Simón Bolívar– form which it was possible not only to define
and represent the identity of the hero in question, but also
to consolidate and popularize a narrative aimed at historically
justifying Argentina’s hegemony over the rest of Latin America.
