Abstract

In post-1964 Brazil, different staging and themes challenged the rigid censorship. Dr. Getúlio, by Dias Gomes and Ferreira Gullar, 1968, and O último carro (The last carriage), by João das Neves, 1977, mix music, politically engaged dramaturgy, and staging. As they aim to achieve both art and political engagement, playwrights and directors bring to stage a samba school and an outskirts train.
