LAND AND SOCIAL CONFLICT. PATAGONIAN PRODUCERS DURING RADICAL GOVERNMENT

Abstract

The public policies that defined the process of distribution / appropriation of the land in the Patagonian spaces incorporated into the national State after the military conquest at the end of the 19th century, gave place to an agrarian structure in which a minority core of big properties would coexist with a very significant number of small and medium owners, lessees and occupants of fact of fiscal fields, all dedicated for the cattle extensive activity With the beginning of the radical governments there appeared a reformulation of the policies referred to the public land, which results, nevertheless, expressed a deep difference between the aims that were trying to reach and the concrete results of his application, in a context of increasing social conflict. In this work they are analyzed, besides the agrarian structure that ensued from the distribution of the Patagonian lands post-conquest, the policies of lands of the radical governments and his effects in the national territories of the south, with the intention to establish possible comparative instances with what happened in more ancient provinces and with another juridical - political status since it is Jujuy's case.
